Your hearing is an integral part of your health and allows you to live a life full of wonderful sounds. Because hearing health is so important, every May the American Speech-Language Hearing Association raises awareness about hearing and communication by celebrating Better Hearing and Speech Month (BHSM).

What’s the Theme for 2022?

The theme of Better Hearing and Speech Month changes every year. This year the theme is, “Connecting People.” Hearing and communication are both important ways we experience the world and connect with people. Whether you are talking to coworkers, laughing with friends, or connecting with family, your hearing plays a crucial role.

For Better Hearing and Speech Month, we encourage patents to be proactive about their hearing health and spread awareness of hearing loss and communication disorders. Find out how you can play your part this Better Hearing and Speech Month!

How You Can Celebrate BHSM

  1. Visit Us for an Appointment: One of the best ways to participate in Better Hearing and Speech Month is by coming into our office for an appointment. If you suspect you have hearing loss, then you should visit us for a test to determine if you could be helped by a hearing aid. A hearing aid can help you hear better and reconnect with your loved ones.
  2. Protect Your Hearing: Sounds over 85 decibels can be dangerous to your hearing. It’s important to wear hearing protection, like earplugs, if you plan on being around loud noises. This includes live music, fireworks, power tools, and motorcycles. Protecting your ears from loud sounds is a great way to be proactive.
  3. Educate Yourself and Spread Awareness: Hearing loss can seem complex and even confusing. In order to normalize and decrease the stigma surrounding hearing loss, it’s important to educate yourself and others. There are many online resources that help you get started.
